So when you put on The Sufferer & The Witness and hear galloping drumbeats, the powerful tenor of frontman Tim McIlrath, a sprinkling of gang vocals and a severe case of the catchy-chorus flu, you could write it off as “more of the same” for the band, or you could realize that no one plays melodic punk better than Rise Against in 2006. It is a bit long though and the only slow ish song doesnt come until the end of the album so if you are listening the album as a whole the energy can get tiring after a bit. There’s tons of energy and anger for a majority of the tracks, making it a very fun listen.
That album highlighted a broadening hardcore sound buffed up with more melody. However, The Sufferer and the Witness really surpassed my standards for them.
Siren Song of the Counter Culture in 2004 was their major-label debut, on Geffen.
